The Saints endured a bad loss to the Rams in Week 8, something the Trench Counter forecasted at least a little bit in the team being not quite as good as their reputation and record would suggest. The Packers remain in the top slot following their bye, while the Texans moved ahead of the Ravens to become the second ranked team in the NFL. Houston has a +13.0 TC average over their most recent four games and still are in good position to end up with a bye and homefield advantage in the divisional round. The Lions, 49ers, Steelers and Bills all had positive weeks, while the Patriots and Chargers suffered losses and were on the wrong side of the TC at eight and nine. The Eagles have put up a +14.4 and +14.1 in their past two games and are now tenth in TC, ahead of all NFC East rivals. Even though the Eagles are two games behind the Giants, they are playing better football and could conceivably enter their Week 11 Sunday Night matchup tied for first. New York has road games at New England and San Francisco, followed by the Eagles at home, and then games at New Orleans and Dallas with the Packers sandwiched in-between at home. The Giants are right behind Philadelphia as the 11th ranked team, but they can find themselves quickly out of contention when they finally have a realtive gimme in Week 15 against Washington. The Trench Counter formula, which the below rankings are solely based upon, creates a completely objective examination. The formula accounts for yards per carry, yards per pass, first downs, turnovers and penalties. It attempts to identify which team controls the line of scrimmage, controls the trenches. The true intention of this type of ranking system is to identify teams that may be over or underrated. 1. Green Bay Packers: 8.5 2. Houston Texans: 8.1 3. Baltimore Ravens: 7.9 4.
