Three weeks are in the books and we only have three undefeated teams. Those three teams are ranked second, third and fourth in our Trench Counter rankings, trailing a Ravens team that has fattened up in blowouts in Week 1 against Pittsburgh and Week 3 against the Chiefs. Ranked seventh, the 1-2 Bengals have underachieved in the win/loss category and should end continue to play close games. The Eagles and Broncos are also in that 1-2 underachieve category, while the win-less Dolphins and Vikings should not necessarily write off the season just yet based on what the Trench Counter tells us. The Buccaneers, conversely, are 2-1 despite being ranked 25th. This has been a testament to the late game ability of Josh Freeman, but their current forumla for success is likely unsustainable. The Browns are another team that have overachieved, beating teams with a combined 1-8 record in less than convincing fashion. The Trench Counter formula, which the below rankings are solely based upon, creates a completely objective examination. The formula accounts for yards per carry, yards per pass, first downs, turnovers and penalties. It attempts to identify which team controls the line of scrimmage, controls the trenches. The true intention of this type of ranking system is to identify teams that may be over or underrated. 1. Baltimore Ravens: 11.9 2. Detroit Lions: 10.7 3. Buffalo Bills: 10.2 4.
