Northwestern named linebackers coach Pat Fitzgerald to succeed Randy Walker on Friday. Fitzgerald, who won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player in 1995 and 1996, was the Wildcats' linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. He succeeds Walker, who died late last month. The 31-year-old who starred on the 1995 Rose Bowl team becomes the youngest coach in the nation and is considered a top recruiter.
