Derek Sherrod, the 32nd overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, has struggled in his first training camp and was unable to beat out T.J. Lang at left guard. The Packers are moving Sherrod to left tackle, practicing behind Chad Clifton. Tyler Dunne of the Journal Sentinel interviewed Sherrod's offensive line coach at Mississippi State. “He’s always been a left tackle," said John Hevesy. "Going to guard was new for him and he’s going to a NFL system from a college system. For any rookie coming in, everything’s new.” Hevesy was also asked about the difficulties of playing both spots. “The thing about guard is your in a little bit of a phone booth. You have help on both sides....The No. 1 thing he has is a great work ethic, a great mentality. He wants to be great. He’ll work that way. With that system, he’s going to work at it every day. He’ll do what he has to do to be great. He needs the practices to learn the system. “I don’t doubt his future just because of his work ethic and how he’ll approach the game and approach learning.”
