ESPN The Magazine has a new article and accompanying picture that is sparking controversy and conversation. The article is titled 'What if Michael Vick were white?' and a photo illustration by D'arcy Hyde shows Vick as a white man. "Race is an undeniable and complex element of Vick's story, both because of his style as well as the rarity of black QBs in the NFL," writes Touré, the author of the piece. "A decade after he became the first black QB to be drafted No. 1 overall, about one in five of the league's passers is African-American, compared with two-thirds of all players. But after his arrest for dogfighting, so many people asked: Would a white football player have gotten nearly two years in prison for what Vick did to dogs?" Touré plugged the piece on Twitter and also spoke of his thoughts on the title. "I asked them not to call it What If Vick Were White but they did," wrote Touré. Most of the early response to the photo has been negative.
