Brett Favre has informed the Vikings that he will retire. Neither Favre nor the Vikings have confirmed the news but a press release is expected Tuesday, the sources said. Favre has retired two previous times, after the 2007 season with the Packers and the 2008 season with the Jets. Last year Favre told the Vikings he was not going to play shortly before camp opened. But he changed his mind a few weeks later. Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels will battle for the starting quarterback job of a Minnesota team that was an overtime field goal away from reaching the Super Bowl.
