On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Packers hosted former University of Tennessee starter Jonathan Crompton on an official draft visit, using the time to get to know him and see if he would be a good fit if the situation arose where they thought he would be the right guy to take. They currently have Matt Flynn and Chris Pizzotti backing up Aaron Rodgers. Crompton had a torn right lambrum in 2005 and athroscopic surgery on his right elbow in '08 and the Packers may have wanted to take a closer look at him. A very highly recruited prep star, Crompton was supposed to help Volunteer fans get over the fact Peyton Manning isn't their quarterback anymore, but he sat out '05, played a little in '06 and backed up Erik Ainge in 07. The following year, he struggled and wound up giving up the starting job. He faced immense pressure as a result of his struggles and reportedly receiving death threats at one point. During his senior year under coach Lane Kiffin, Crompton was held back and didn't get to toss the ball all over the yard. He completed 224 of 384 passes for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdown with 13 interceptions.
