Atlanta 20, Tampa Bay 10 Team Trench Counter: Falcons +14.6, Buccaneers -14.6 The Atlanta Falcons (9-7) ensured themselves of back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in decades with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-13) on Sunday afternoon. Jason Snelling starred with 147 rushing yards on 25 rushes and Matt Ryan went 23-for-35 with 223 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. Rookie Josh Freeman went 16-for-32 with 174 yards, a touchdown and two picks at Raymond James Stadium. San Francisco 28, St. Louis 6 Team Trench Counter: 49ers +20.2, Rams -20.2 Vernon Davis scored his 13th touchdown of the season (a record for tight ends) as the San Francisco 49ers (8-8) knocked off the St. Louis Rams (1-15). Frank Gore went wild with 107 yards and two touchdowns, while Alex Smith posted 222 yards and a score on 17-for-28 passing. Keith Null and Kyle Boller split the duties at quarterback, but neither completed more than 50% of their attempts or accumulated more than 57 yards. Minnesota 44, N.Y Giants 7 Team Trench Counter: Vikings +29.7, Giants -29.7 The Minnesota Vikings (12-4) enjoyed a fine playoff refresher against the New York Giants (8-8) at the Metrodome. Brett Favre went 25-for-31 with 316 yards and four touchdowns and Adrian Peterson added 54 rushing yards and a score in the romp. Sidney Rice was Favre?s main target, catching six passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Steve Smith was the lone offensive star for New York. He caught 10 passes for 57 yards, giving him 107 receptions and 1,220 yards on the season. Pittsburgh 30, Miami 24 Team Trench Counter: Steelers +8, Dolphins -8 The Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7) withstood a late threat by the Miami Dolphins (7-9) to momentarily keep themselves in postseason contention. Ben Roethlisberger had 220 yards and three touchdowns and Rashard Mendenhall (94 yards) and Willie Parker (91 yards) excelled on the ground. Davone Bess led the Dolphins with five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Miami saw both Chad Henne and Pat White leave the game with injuries. Houston 34, New England 27 Team Trench Counter: Texans +13.7, Patriots -13.7 The Houston Texans (9-7) scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to storm back against the New England Patriots (10-6) at Reliant Stadium. Arian Foster rushed for 119 yards and two scores (both in the final period) in the win, while Matt Schaub had 303 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Tom Brady left early and wide receiver Julian Edelman grabbed 10 catches for 103 yards in the loss. Chicago 37, Detroit 23 Team Trench Counter: Bears +10, Lions -10 Jay Cutler had his best game of the season as the Chicago Bears (7-9) pulled away from the Detroit Lions (2-14) over the final 15 minutes. Cutler went 22-for-36 with 276 yards and four touchdowns and Matt Forte exploded for 101 yards on just 16 carries. Cutler?s top target was tight end Greg Olsen, who grabbed five receptions for 94 yards and a score. Daunte Culpepper played well, going 23-for-34 with 262 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Cleveland 23, Jacksonville 17 Team Trench Counter: Browns +3.7, Jaguars -3.7 The Cleveland Browns (5-11) beat the Jacksonville Jaguars (7-9) to end the 2009 season with a four-game winning streak. Jerome Harrison had 127 yards and a touchdown and Josh Cribbs rushed six times for 47 yards and a score. David Garrard went 22-for-39 with 202 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the loss. Tight end Zach Miller was on the receiving end of both Garrard scoring strikes. Carolina 23, New Orleans 10 Team Trench Counter: Panthers +17.2, Saints -17.2 The Carolina Panthers (8-8) scored first and never looked back against the New Orleans Saints (13-3) on Sunday afternoon. Jonathan Stewart put up 125 yards and a touchdown and Matt Moore went 14-for-23 with 162 yards and a touchdown. The Saints rested a majority of their players, opting to start Mark Brunell at quarterback. New Orleans ends the season with three consecutive losses, but they still held onto the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC. Buffalo 30, Indianapolis 7 Team Trench Counter: Bills +22.4, Colts -22.4 Ryan Fitzpatrick starred as the Buffalo Bills (6-10) sent the Indianapolis Colts (14-2) to their second straight loss. Fitzpatrick went 16-for-25 with 155 yards and three touchdowns and Fred Jackson exploded for 212 yards on 33 touches at snowy Ralph Wilson Stadium. Peyton Manning lasted just long enough to reach 4,500 passing yards and the game was tied at seven apiece when the MVP candidate left. Tennessee 17, Seattle 13 Team Trench Counter: Titans -7.4, Seahawks +7.4 The Tennessee Titans (8-8) won a hard fought game against the Seattle Seahawks (5-11) at the Qwest Field. Chris Johnson surpassed the 2,000-yard mark as he rushed the ball 36 for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Vince Young went 17-for-28 with 171 and an interception. Justin Forsett (74 yards) and Julius Jones (61 yards) combined to help the Seahawks stay in the game. Matt Hasselbeck went 15-for-30 with 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception. San Diego 23, Washington 20 Team Trench Counter: Chargers -1.3, Redskins +1.3 The San Diego Chargers (13-3) scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Washington Redskins (4-12) on Sunday. Philip Rivers had 99 yards and a touchdown in limited duty and Billy Volek added 216 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 19-for-30 passing. Malcolm Floyd led the way with nine receptions for 140 yards. Jason Campbell had a strong showing, going 28-for-42 with 281 yards and two touchdowns. Malcolm Kelly was Washington?s leading receiver, catching five passes for 109 yards. Baltimore 21, Oakland 13 Team Trench Counter: Ravens +6.3, Raiders -6.3 The Baltimore Ravens (9-7) locked up a playoff berth with a win over the Oakland Raiders (5-11) at the Oakland Coliseum. Joe Flacco went 11-for-19 with 102 yards as the Ravens used a conservative offensive attack. Willis McGahee was the team?s offensive star, rushing for 167 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 rushes. In addition, Ray Rice had 70 yards on 14 touches. Charlie Frye went 18-for-25 with 180 yards and a touchdown, while JaMarcus Russell went 9-for-14 with 102 yards and an interception for Oakland. Kansas City 44, Denver 24 Team Trench Counter: Chiefs +8.3, Broncos -8.3 The Denver Broncos (8-8) ruined a chance to slip into the playoffs with a loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs (4-12). Jamaal Charles led the way with 259 yards and two touchdowns and Derrick Johnson returned two interceptions back for touchdowns in Denver. Kyle Orton went 32-for-56 with 431 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the loss. Knowshon Moreno rushed for 50 yards and two scores and wide receiver Jabar Gaffney exploded for 14 receptions and 213 yards. Green Bay 33, Arizona 7 Team Trench Counter: Packers +23, Cardinals -23 The Green Bay Packers (11-5) jumped out to an early lead and beat the Arizona Cardinals (10-6) in a matchup that will be replayed in the first round of the NFC playoffs. Aaron Rodgers had 235 yards and a touchdown and Ryan Grant had 51 yards and a score of his own. Matt Leinart struggled in relief of Kurt Warner, going 13-for-21 with 96 yards and two interceptions. Green Bay held Arizona off the scoreboard until Brian St. Pierre connected with Larry Fitzgerald on a 3-yard touchdown pass with 2:59 left in regulation. Dallas 24, Philadelphia 0 Team Trench Counter: Cowboys +13.9, Eagles -13.9 The Dallas Cowboys (11-5) defeated the Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) to claim the NFC East title and prevent the Eagles from jumping up to the No. 2 seed and earning a first-round bye. Tony Romo went 24-for-34 with 311 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Marion Barber (91 yards) and Felix Jones (91 yards and a score) helped Dallas control the clock and field position. Donovan McNabb went 20-for-36 with 223 yards and the Cowboys held the Eagles to just 37 total rushing yards.
