After a slow start this season, LaRon Landry has been impressive of late, especially last week in Dallas. "We kind of talked to LaRon, and I thought Steve did a great job of getting LaRon to understand that he is a free safety," said secondary coach Jerry Gray, who speaks for the defense. "He has instincts and the natural ability to be a strong, aggressive guy. But as a free safety, you've got to be more calculated. You've got to be more risk-taking, but in the right time. "You can't just waste a lot of bullets, and I thought he did a great job of not wasting plays like he did the week before [against the Denver Broncos]. I know guys want to play, but in your position as a free safety, you've got to be real disciplined. You can't jump everything you see, so it kind of takes the aggressiveness out of you. But when the ball is in the air, it's just as much yours as it is his." Landry is currently playing free safety, though he is better suited for his natural position of strong safety.
