Leaving on his own accord, general manager Rick Spielman left his post with the Miami Dolphins. ''I want to thank [owner] Wayne Huizenga, [coach] Nick Saban, the Dolphin players, coaches, and staff, along with the South Florida community,'' Spielman said. ``I have a lot of fond memories of my time here and made a lot of friends, and I hope the team goes on to have a great season.'' It has been speculated that the Dolphins are interested in hiring Philadelphia assistant director of player personnel Jason Licht, who spent two years with the Dolphins in the 1990s and four years with New England before joining the Eagles in 2003. 'The Dolphins organization appreciates the contributions Rick made to the club during his tenure here,'' Saban said. ``I want to thank him for all of his assistance during the time that we worked together and wish him the best of success in the future.''
