Joe Montana played the 1981 NFC Championship Game that ended with the 'The Catch' to Dwight Clark under the cloud of a credible death threat. "They told me right before the start of the game, or right at the start of the game," said Montana. "Somebody was going to try and shoot me during the game." Montana told author Gary Myers he thought about it a couple of times during the game, but as he said, "You are alone. There isn't a whole lot that could be done.'' As soon as the game was over, Montana took the ball and ran directly into the 49ers' locker room.
