Rookie quarterback Charlie Frye, who performed well for the Cleveland Browns in his starting debut last weekend, will retain the No. 1 job for at least one more week. Browns coach Romeo Crennel, who earlier in the week indicated that he would not reveal his starter until Sunday, just before the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, announced on Wednesday that Frye would get the nod over veteran Trent Dilfer. A 12-year veteran who was acquired in a trade this summer, Dilfer had started the first 11 games of the year but is currently battling tendinitis in his knee. Noting that he felt it was "unfair" to his quarterbacks to delay a decision, Crennel told Dilfer on Tuesday night that Frye would start. "It ends up being another test for Charlie," said Crennel, who would not commit to Frye beyond Sunday against the division-leading Bengals. "He knows he's the starter early in the week now. Everybody else knows he's the starter early in the week. So we'll see how he handles the situation."
