The Philadelphia Eagles have had excellent success throughout the tenure of Andy Reid, which has been sustained over the past five seasons even though they have missed the postseason twice. Howie Roseman is now general manager and he may be in charge of remaking the Eagles without Reid if they don’t make the playoffs in 2012.

RealGM has been using a statistic called the Trench Counter to rank NFL teams since the 2007 season.

The Trench Counter accounts for average yards per pass, yards per carry, penalty yards, first downs and turnovers to determine how well teams control the game in the most meaningful ways.

The Eagles rank 5th in Trench Counter from the 2007 season through 2011.

Below are their season-by-season rankings, Trench Counter totals and actual record in parentheses.

2007: 11th, +2.4 (8-8)
2008: 4th, +5.6 (9-6)
2009: 10th, +4.2 (11-5)
2010: 10th, +2.6 (10-6)
2011: 10th, +2.3 (8-8)
