The Bengals and first-round pick Keith Rivers are not close to terms on a contract, according to ESPN.com's James Walker. Cincinnati took Rivers with the ninth overall pick in April's draft, and the linebacker has already missed an entire week of camp with the team. He was the favorite to win the starting job but is the only first-round pick yet to be signed. The Bengals appear worried about the time he's missing in camp. "A lot of this stuff we've already gone over, so he's heard it once through the minicamp," Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said. "But now is when it's starting to get critical for him, because it's all starting to come together. Even if he came out tomorrow, he's got to learn [multiple] days of install in one day. So he's way behind the eight ball now. It's going to be tough."
