The New England Patriots placed Matt Corral on the exempt list on Saturday after he was absent from the team without notice on Friday and Saturday, according to a report.

Reports surfaced that the Patriots planned to release the quarterback, but The Athletic states that New England is still trying determine Corral's future with the team.

Corral, 23, was a third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers last April.

He was released by the team on Aug. 30 after not attempting a pass during his rookie season.
