Jeff Fisher has signed a contract extension with the Los Angeles Rams.

Fisher's new deal extends his contract by two seasons. The Rams did not want Fisher to enter 2016 as a lame-duck coach, sources told ESPN, so the sides agreed to the extension at the start of the season.

"Been done for a while," a source said.

The Rams could have a team option for 2018 that allows the team to part ways with Fisher after the current season and owe him only one additional year of salary.

Fisher, who has led the Rams to a 4-7 record this season and is 31-43-1 with the franchise, helped the transition as the team moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016.
