The San Francisco 49ers have hired Chip Kelly as head coach.

Kelly was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles before Week 17 of the 2015 season.

Kelly served as head coach of Oregon before joining the Eagles between 2009 and 2012.

Kelly posted a 10-6 record with the Eagles in each of his first two seasons.

Over the span of Kelly’s three seasons in Philadelphia, the Eagles ranked third in the NFL in points per game (26.9) and total offense (392.8 yards per game), and fourth in rushing yards per game (131.3).

The future of Colin Kaepernick with the 49ers is now more promising with the hiring of Kelly. When scanning the landscape for potential jobs, Kelly considered how he might be able to trade for or sign Kaepernick.

Trent Baale will remain his power as general manager in charge of personnel with Kelly focusing on coaching.

According to Jason La Canfora, the 49ers solidified their decision to fire Jim Tomsula when Kelly became available.

Adam Schefter had reported one day previously he didn't expect Kelly to get an NFL job this offseason.
