The San Francisco 49ers will start Blaine Gabbert at quarterback instead of Colin Kaepernick in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The 49ers are 2-6 and Kaepernick has struggled with his play.

Kaepernick went a fourth straight game without an interception in the loss to the Rams. But he was also held without a touchdown for the second consecutive game.

Gabbert was re-signed as the backup with a two-year deal in March.
