Kerry J. Byrne of the Boston Herald believes the NFL has killed parity through a series of rule changes to help offenses.

Rule changes in the name of player safety have made it more difficult for NFL defenses and special teams have also been legislated out of the sport.

Quarterbacks threw interceptions on 4.3 percent of attempts back in 1981; that rate was down to 2.5 percent in 2014, the lowest in NFL history.

NFL teams averaged just 26.7 rushing attempts per game last season, the fewest in NFL history.

Teams with the best quarterbacks have consistently had success in recent seasons while those searching for a quarterback have had the worst records in the NFL.
