The Pittsburgh Steelers have extended the contract of Mike Tomlin by two seasons.

Tomlin, who has four AFC North titles and five playoff appearances in eight years, is now under contract until at least the 2018 season, the team announced Thursday.

"Mike has proven he is one of the top head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident he will continue to lead the team in our pursuit of another Super Bowl championship," team president Art Rooney II said.

Tomlin, 43, is the sixth-longest-tenured coach in the league.
