Brian Urlacher is lobbying for teammate Julius Peppers to win the defensive player of the year award. "Julius Peppers is the league's defensive player of the year. Write that,'' Urlacher said. "You look at Pep, I mean maybe the sacks aren't all the way there yet, but he has the numbers. He gets double-teamed every play. He doesn't have as many sacks as (Matthews) does, but I think he's the guy.'' Clay Matthews of the Packers has been widely regarded as the favorite to win the award. "He's one of the best in the league,'' Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said of Peppers during a news conference. "He's big, strong, fast, athletic. He's really wreaking havoc (this year).''
