Stars of Week 14

QB:      Peyton Manning: 39-59, 397 yards, 4 TDs

RB:      LeSean McCoy: 29 carries, 217 yards, 2 TDs

WR:     Marques Colston: 9 catches, 125 yards, 2 TDs

TE:      Charles Clay: 7 catches, 97 yards, 2 TDs

So that Peyton Manning guy finds his way here once again – shocker of the week! LeSean McCoy went absolutely gangbusters against the Lions in a Philly snowstorm, earning the RB honor roll award. Marques Colston has mostly had a disappointing season, but has come on as of late. Finally, Charles Clay has emerged as a TE weapon this year for the Dolphins and for fantasy owners. Both Colston and Clay will be looked at in further detail below.

Week 14 Takeaways – A Closer Look

Each week we’ll take a closer look at a handful of performances and sort out what such performances mean going forward.

- Jason Campbell: 29-44, 391 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs

Analysis:         As you can see from the line above, Jason Campbell put up strong numbers against the Patriots this past Sunday. Campbell has dealt with injuries throughout the season, but has played well when healthy. With Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron as weapons in the passing game, Campbell can be useful in deep leagues, if you happen to be in a pinch for a QB. As stated last week, for any games where Brandon Weeden starts for the Browns, stay clear. When Campbell is healthy enough to go, however, he’s worth a look if QB help is needed.

- Shane Vereen: 3 rushes, 9 yards, 1 TD (12 catches, 153 yards, 0 TDs)

Analysis:         While Vereen is a running back, his value clearly comes from his receptions out of the backfield. Teams who started Vereen this past Sunday, especially those in PPR leagues, made out like bandits. Vereen's role in the passing game will continue to remain substantial, especially with Gronk out (again) for the remainder of the season. Vereen is a must start in all PPR leagues for the playoff run.  In non-PPR leagues, Vereen still deserves strong consideration for starting duties, but naturally his value does drop a bit.

- Marques Colston: 9 catches, 125 yards, 2 TDs

Analysis:         Colston has had a somewhat disappointing season, at least compared to the numbers he has put up in previous seasons. What we saw on Sunday against the Panthers is more along the lines of what we had expected to see from Colston. If you chalk up Colston's lack of performance against Seattle to a tough matchup, you otherwise can see signs of life from him over the past month. Colston's recent play moves him back into the WR3/flex discussion. Note, however, that Colston has performed significantly better at home this season (41 catches, 565 yards, 4 TDs) than on the road (15 catches, 156 yards, 0 TDs), so keep this in mind when making your lineup decisions.

- Rod Streater                          7 catches, 130 yards, 1 TD

Analysis:         Rod Streater has quietly been having a solid season for the Raiders, despite dealing with very uneven quarterback play. Streater was targeted 10 times by the Raiders' QBs (both McGloin and Pryor played on Sunday), and viewing Streater's full season performance, he has been quite consistent (by WR standards), with somewhat of a notable uptick the past month. Streater should also be viewed in the WR3/flex discussion for the remaining few weeks, so if you need a WR, give Streater a look.

- Charles Clay:                          7 catches, 97 yards, 2 TDs

Analysis:         In what has been a chaotic season for the Dolphins, Charles Clay has been a revelation. Clay has put up strong numbers this season, and has become one of Ryan Tannehill’s most trusted targets. Clay has been on fantasy managers’ radar for a while this season, but in case there is any doubt, he should be viewed by his owners as a low end TE1. Get him into your lineup for the playoff run.

- Dennis Pitta:                          6 catches, 48 yards, 1 TD

Analysis:         While Clay is rostered in most leagues already, Pitta is largely available in most leagues, as he just played his first game of the season on Sunday. Flacco’s safety valve made his presence felt right away, finding the end zone once against the Vikings among his six catches. Even more promising, Flacco targeted Pitta eleven times, and with the playoffs on the line for the Ravens, Pitta will play a significant role in the offense over these few remaining games. If you need a TE, grab Pitta now. He should also be viewed as low end TE1 in standard leagues. Pitta can certainly help fantasy owners in the playoffs.
