Pittsburgh 27, Cincinnati 10 Team Trench Counter: Steelers +11.4, Bengals -11.4 The Steelers (8-3) pulled away in the second half against the Bengals (1-9-1) on Thursday night. Ben Roethlisberger went 17-for-30 with 243 yards and a touchdown and added 13 rushing yards and a score while Mewelde Moore and Willie Parker combined to rush for 93 yards on twenty-nine carries in the win. Santonio Holmes led Pittsburgh with 88 receiving yards, and the defense limited Cincinnati to just 208 total yards. Ryan Fitzpatrick went 20-for-37 for 168 yards, one touchdown. and an interception. Cedric Benson, the team?s top rusher by default, rushed sixteen times but managed just 35 yards. The Bengals were without Chad ?Ocho Cinco? Johnson after he was deactivated prior to the game. Cincinnati took a quick 7-0 lead on a 10-yard connection between Glenn Holt and Fitzpatrick in the first, but the Bengals only managed a field goal in the game?s final forty-eight minutes. N.Y. Jets 34, Tennessee 13 Team Trench Counter: Jets +9.8, Titans -9.8 The Jets (8-3) handed the Titans (10-1) their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a strong performance by Leon Washington. Brett Favre went 25-for-32 with 224 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Thomas Jones had 117 total yards and a score while Washington tallied 82 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. New York limited Tennessee?s stellar rushing attack to only 45 yards on the ground. Kerry Collins was respectable, going 21-for-39 with 243 yards and a touchdown. However, they didn?t dominate on the ground as the Titans had grown accustomed to this season. In addition to their difficulty gaining yardage, Chris Johnson lost a fumble in the team?s first loss since San Diego defeated them 17-6 on Jan. 6. Chicago 27, St. Louis 3 Team Trench Counter: Bears +24.2, Rams -24.2 Rookie Matt Forte led the Bears (6-5) to an important win over the Rams (2-9) at Edwards Jones Stadium. Kyle Orton went 18-for-29 with 139 yards and touchdown, and Forte rushed for 132 yards and a pair of scores in the dominant victory. Devin Hester led Chicago in receiving with five catches for 57 yards while the defense limited St. Louis to just 207 and forced four turnovers. Marc Bulger left in the first quarter with a concussion, and Trent Green struggled mightily. Green went 16-for-30 with 219 yards and four interceptions, as he accounted for all of the team?s turnovers. The Rams managed a mere fourteen yards on the ground, with Steven Jackson missing yet another game with a thigh injury. Torry Holt led the team with 84 receiving yards on four catches in the loss. New England 48, Miami 28 Team Trench Counter: Patriots +9.4, Dolphins -9.4 The Dolphins (6-5) scored a touchdown in every quarter, but the Patriots (7-4) pulled away in the second half with 31 points. Matt Cassel had 415 passing yards ? his second-straight week over the 400-yard mark ? and three touchdowns on 30-for-43 passing. New England also scored three times on the ground, with Kevin Faulk, Cassel, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis each finding the end zone. Randy Moss exploded, having his best game of the season, tallying 125 yards and three touchdowns on eight receptions. Wes Welker also starred, grabbing 8 balls for 120 yards. Chad Pennington was strong, going 24-for-41 with 341 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Pennington added a rushing score while Ronnie Brown (37 yards on 10 carries), and Ricky Williams (21 yards on six attempts) struggled against New England?s rush defense. Ted Ginn Jr. (88 yards), Davone Bess (87 yards), and Greg Camarillo (75 yards and a score) led Miami in receiving. Buffalo 54, Kansas City 31 Team Trench Counter: Bills +4.5, Chiefs -4.5 The Bills (6-5) hung more points on the Chiefs (1-10) than anyone in history on Sunday as they scored 40 points over the second and third quarters. Trent Edwards went 24-for-32 with 273 yards and two touchdowns while Marshawn Lynch led on the ground with 79 yards and a score. Edwards joined Lynch, rushing six times for 38 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Lee Evans hooked up with Edwards five times for 110 yards while Josh Reed caught five passes for 50 yards and a score. Tyler Thigpen went 17-for-31 with 240 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, and Quinn Gray went 7-for-8 with 76 yards and a touchdown in garbage time. Larry Johnson amassed 81 yards on just seven carries, helping the Chiefs average an astounding 12.2 yards per carry. Four different Kansas City players caught touchdowns ? Tony Gonzalez (10 catches, 113 yards), Dwayne Bowe (3 catches, 58 yards), Mark Bradley (2 catches, 52 yards), and Jamaal Charles (3 catches, 45 yards) in the loss. Minnesota 30, Jacksonville 12 Team Trench Counter: Vikings +12, Jaguars -12 The Vikings (6-5) improved their playoff chances with an impressive win over the struggling Jaguars (4-7) on Sunday. Gus Frerotte struggled, going 12-for-20 with 120 yards and an interception, but Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor picked up the slack on the ground. Peterson rushed seventeen times for 80 yards and a touchdown, and Taylor added 25 yards and a score on nine carries. Minnesota got on the board early, just thirteen seconds into the game, thanks to a 27-yard fumble return by Napoleon Harris. David Garrard went 27-for-45 with 317 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Jaguars. The Vikings limited Jacksonville?s dynamic rushing tandem, holding Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor to just 24 yards on nine carries. Jones-Drew, however, excelled as a receiver, catching nine passes for 113 yards. In addition to Garrard?s interceptions, the Jaguars lost three fumbles in defeat. Tampa Bay 38, Detroit 20 Team Trench Counter: Buccaneers +12.7, Lions -12.7 The Lions (0-11) stormed out of the gates to take a 17-0 lead but couldn?t keep the Buccaneers (8-3) off the scoreboard in the second and third quarters en route to yet another loss. Jeff Garcia went 13-for-18 with 165 yards and two touchdowns while Warrick Dunn performed well with 90 rushing yards and a score on fourteen carries. Cadillac Williams, in his return from a career-threatening knee injury, had 27 yards on sixteen attempts. Tampa Bay held Detroit to 207 total yards after putting the clamps on the Lions in the second period. Daunte Culpepper went 8-for-20 with 121 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He was relieved by Drew Stanton, who went 2-for-6 with 13 yards, but was forced back into the game after Stanton suffered a concussion. Kevin Smith ran well, tallying 86 yards on sixteen attempts. Calvin Johnson was the team?s lone offensive star, catching three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown at Ford Field. Dallas 35, San Francisco 22 Team Trench Counter: 49ers +0.8, Cowboys -0.8 Terrell Owens and the Cowboys (7-4) broke out of their offensive slump against the 49ers (3-8) on Sunday. Tony Romo went 23-for-39 with 341 yards and three touchdowns while Marion Barber rushed nineteen times for 59 yards. Owens, who hadn?t topped the 100-yard mark all season, caught seven passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. Romo, who lost a fumble for the team?s only turnover of the afternoon, also connected with Roy Williams three times for 36 yards. Shaun Hill was decent for the 49ers, going 21-for-33 with 303 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Frank Gore struggled, however, rushing for just 26 yards on fourteen attempts. Isaac Bruce was Hill?s main target, recording eight receptions for 125 yards and a score in the loss. San Francisco allowed Dallas to tally 408 total yards while they managed just 304 themselves. Houston 16, Cleveland 6 Team Trench Counter: Texans +9.7, Browns -9.7 The Texans (4-7) won an ugly contest over the Browns (4-7) simply because they made fewer mistakes. Sage Rosenfels went 24-for-32 with 275 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Steve Slaton (73 yards on 21 carries) and Ahman Green (39 yards on 13 attempts) helped Houston control the clock. Andre Johnson was the team?s offensive star, catching 10 passes for 116 yards in the victory. Brady Quinn, who went 8-for-18 with 94 yards and two interceptions, was replaced by Derek Anderson in the second half. Anderson didn?t fare much better, going 5-for-14 with 51 yards and a pick of his own. Jamal Lewis, who lost a fumble, rushed for 58 yards on ten carries. Braylon Edwards was the only bright spot for Cleveland, recording five receptions for 85 yards. No other receiver had more than 18 yards receiving for the Browns in the loss. Baltimore 36, Philadelphia 7 Team Trench Counter: Ravens +18.6, Eagles -18.6 The Ravens (7-4) defeated the Eagles (5-5-1) in a game that was highlighted by the benching of Donovan McNabb in the second half. Rookie Joe Flacco went 12-for-26 with 183 yards and two touchdowns, while Le?Ron McClain tallied 88 rushing yards and a score on eighteen carries. Mark Clayton led Baltimore in receiving with two catches for 76 yards and a trip to the end zone. The defense feasted on the struggling Eagles, grabbing four interceptions, a fumble and scoring on a 108-yard pick return by Ed Reed. McNabb went 8-for-18 with 59 yards, two interceptions and a fumble in the first half before being replaced by Kevin Kolb, who went 10-for-23 with 73 yards and two picks as well. Brian Westbrook, without a passing game on his side, rushed for just 39 yards on fourteen carries. Rookie DeSean Jackson, who rushed once for 12 yards, caught five passes for 47 yards in the tough loss. The Eagles would have been held scoreless by the Ravens had Quintin Demps not returned a kickoff 100 yards near the end of the second quarter. At the half, when McNabb?s benching, the first of his career, took place the score was 10-7 in favor of Baltimore. Oakland 31, Denver 10 Team Trench Counter: Raiders +12.6, Broncos -12.6 JaMarcus Russell was nearly perfect as the Raiders (3-8) shocked the Broncos (6-5) at Invesco Field. Russell went 11-for-12 with 152 yards and a touchdown, and Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden dominated on the ground. Fargas rushed twenty-four times for 107 yards, while McFadden added 38 yards and two touchdowns on ten rushes. Ashley Lelie appears to have decent chemistry with Russell, as he caught four passes for 92 yards and a score in the win. Jay Cutler struggled mightily, going 16-for-37 with 204 yards and an interception. Peyton Hillis, the fullback turned leading rusher, ran seventeen times for 74 yards and a touchdown, Denver?s only trip to the end zone of the afternoon. As usual, Brandon Marshall led the Broncos in receiving with four receptions for 84 yards. Oakland receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins returned a punt 89 yards for a key touchdown in the second quarter. Washington 20, Seattle 17 Team Trench Counter: Redskins +10.9, Seahawks -10.9 The Redskins (7-4) held off the Seahawks (2-9) on Sunday to keep pace in the tight NFC East. Jason Campbell was steady, going 20-for-33 with 206 yards and a touchdown. Clinton Portis, who was a game-time decision with a knee injury, rushed twenty-nine times for 143 yards against Seattle. Santana Moss led the Redskins in receiving with 72 yards, while Antwaan Randle El caught two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown. Matt Hasselbeck went 12-for-24 with 103 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. Seattle had a chance to shock Washington, but Hasselbeck threw a pick on first down with 1:28 left on the team?s own 22-yard line. Maurice Morris rushed fourteen times for 103 yards, and added three catches for 10 yards and a touchdown. The Seahawks, who have lost four-straight, are amazingly just a game out of second place in the NFC West. N.Y. Giants 37, Arizona 29 Team Trench Counter: Giants +0, Cardinals -0 The Giants (10-1) continue to defeat formidable opponents, having knocked off the Cardinals (7-4) in Arizona. Eli Manning went 26-for-33 with 240 yards and three touchdowns, even without Plaxico Burress, who left early with a lingering hamstring injury. Derrick Ward ? starting in the place of Brandon Jacobs (knee injury) ? rushed twenty times for 69 yards and a score. Manning spread the ball around nicely, connecting with five different receivers at least four times. Kurt Warner went 32-for-52 with 351 yards, one touchdown, d an interception. Warner did a majority of the team?s offensive damage through the air, but rookie Tim Hightower benefited from numerous red zone touches. Hightower rushed for just 21 yards on eleven carries, but reached the end zone twice. Anquan Boldin had eleven catches for 87 yards and a score; Larry Fitzgerald grabbed five balls for 71 yards; and Steve Breaston had six receptions for 86 yards. Warner, who entered the game as a favorite to be named the league?s MVP, also lost a fumble. Atlanta 45, Carolina 28 Team Trench Counter: Falcons +0.5, Panthers -0.5 The Falcons (7-4) scored 28 points in the fourth quarter en route to a huge divisional win over the Panthers (8-3) at the Georgia Dome. Matt Ryan went 17-for-27 with 259 yards but leaned on Michael Turner heavily in the red zone. Turner rushed twenty-four times for 117 yards and four touchdowns. Turner scored three of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter while Harry Douglas added a 61-yard punt return in the final fifteen minutes. Douglas also caught four passes for 92 yards in the win. Jake Delhomme broke out of his recent skid, going 21-for-35 with 295 yards and a touchdown and added a 12-yard touchdown run in the fourth. DeAngelo Williams excelled on the ground, rushing nineteen times for 109 yards and a score. Muhsin Muhammad caught four passes for 40 yards and a trip to the end zone while Steve Smith had eight receptions for 168 yards in the loss. Indianapolis 23, San Diego 20 Team Trench Counter: Colts -6.6, Chargers +6.6 Adam Vinatieri kicked a 51-yard field goal as time expired to give the Colts (7-4) a win over the Chargers (4-7). Peyton Manning went 32-for-44 with 255 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Joseph Addai added 70 yards on sixteen carries, also catching seven passes for 31 yards. Anthony Gonzalez led Indianapolis with six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. Philip Rivers went 24-for-31 with 288 yards and two touchdowns, and a lost fumble in the loss. LaDainian Tomlinson continued to show signs of a resurgence with 84 yards on twenty-one carries. Chris Chambers led San Diego with six catches for 61 yards. The Chargers are still alive in the AFC playoff picture, as they trail the Broncos by just two games in the AFC West. New Orleans 51, Green Bay 29 Team Trench Counter: Saints +18.3, Packers -18.3 Drew Brees aired it out as the Saints (6-5) thumped the Packers (5-6) on Monday Night Football. Brees went 20-for-26 with 323 yards and four touchdowns, outplaying Aaron Rodgers mightily in Louisiana. Pierre Thomas ran fifteen times for 87 yards and two touchdowns, while Lance Moore once again led New Orleans in receiving with five catches for 115 yards and a pair of scores. Rodgers went 23-for-41 with 248 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. It was the secondary of the Saints, not the hyped unit of the Packers, that played a key role in the game. Ryan Grant carried the ball eighteen times for 67 yards, and Rodgers added 36 rushing yards on eight scrambles.
