Alex Smith has retired from the NFL.

Smith was the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2020 after helping lead the Washington Football Team to the NFC East title.

Smith underwent 17 surgeries to fight an infection and opted not to have his leg amputated.

Smith said he believes he has "plenty of snaps left in me," he is looking forward to spending more time with his family and "can't wait to see what else is possible" after 16 years in the NFL.
