While they ultimately moved this week's postponed game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos to next Sunday as part of a rescheduling plan that involved eight games, the NFL debated an indefinite postponement, which would essentially have put a "Week 18" scenario in play, according to a source.

However, given all the COVID-19 related schedule changes the league has already dealt with, the possibility of an additional regular season week seems highly possible. Once a team has a forced bye, there may be no choice but to tack postponed games onto the end of the Week 17 slate.

In a Week 18 scenario, the league would likely only play those games if they had a significant impact on the playoffs.
