If NFL games are played in empty stadiums this season, the league's revenues will decline.

That could lead to a lower salary cap in the future, but the NFL is apparently planning to float the idea to players that they should agree to take less money this year, rather than wait until next year.

It's doubtful that would sit well with a lot of players, but a report says the players' union would be amenable to negotiating with the league about taking less this year, provided it avoids a steep cut to the salary cap next year.
