Tony Romo is seeking a contract extension with CBS worth at least $10 million per year.

Romo is entering the final season of his initial contract with CBS in which he earns $4 million per year.

Romo has arguably become the NFL's most popular commentator since John Madden. Madden made $8 million per season at his peak, but that was many years ago.

Troy Aikman makes $7.5 million annually with Fox, while Jon Gruden made $6.5 million per year with ESPN.

Romo would be a coveted broadcasting free agent if his contract expires.

Romo has had offers to both play, and coach, in the NFL, sources said. Romo confirmed to The Athletic he's had "legitimate offers" to return to the league. "Usually, it's a coach that reaches out," Romo said.
