Odell Beckham Jr. put up historical numbers while with the New York Giants, but the franchise decided to trade him for an underwhelming package from the Cleveland Browns just one season into a new deal.
"He had become too much of a pain in the ass," said one source familiar with the situation. "And there was a real fear that eventually it would get worse."
It was "absolutely not a football decision," according to one team source.
The Giants felt Beckham wasn't truly happy with the franchise and the continued struggles of Eli Manning, which they feared could lead to him forcing a trade.
The Giants continued to seek two first round picks, but Dave Gettleman convinced his franchise it was time to do the deal when the Browns offered their first round pick and Jabrill Peppers, who the Giants loved in the 2017 draft.
