ESPN and FOX are both pursuing Peyton Manning for their primetime game analyst openings.

ESPN is seeking a replacement for Jon Gruden on Monday Night Football while FOX added Thursday Night Football for 2018.

FOX reached out to Manning before last season.

ESPN is willing to “back up the truck” for Manning, according to one source. Gruden was making more than $6.5 million per year.

ESPN could also replace Sean McDonough, who was received criticism from many corners. Joe Tessitore, Steve Levy and Dave Pasch are three internal possibilities. Levy finished second to McDonough two years ago.

While Manning has appeared reluctant to take a job in broadcasting, his endorsement pursuits could eventually be impacted if he continues to remain out of the spotlight in retirement.
