The New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees essentially have a deadline of March 14th to agree upon a new contract.

If the Saints and Brees do nothing between now and then, the final three contract years void and the team would be stuck with $18 million worth of signing bonus prorated on this year's cap as well as whatever salary he earns.

Both Brees and the Saints want to agree upon a new deal, but there have not been any serious discussions held.

The Saints signed Brees to a five-year deal before the 2016 season, but it was essentially only a two-year deal. The 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons were just "dummy" years added to the contract for cap proration.
