While the New England Patriots didn't offer any assurances to Josh McDaniels, his decision to remain with the franchise could ultimately lead to a succession for Bill Belichick.

Belichick told McDaniels that he would spend more time with him on the inner workings of the Patriots, such as roster construction and salary cap management. McDaniels considers that to be "extremely valuable."

The Patriots also made a long-term contractual commitment to McDaniels.

With four children, McDaniels values the stability he has with the Patriots.

McDaniels was still prepared to take the Colts' job as of Tuesday morning until his conversations with Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft and Belichick.
