Donald Trump tweeted early Monday morning that he believes Marshawn Lynch should be punished by the NFL for sitting during the United States anthem prior to Sunday's game between the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots in Mexico City.

Lynch stood during the Mexican national anthem.

"Marshawn Lynch of the NFL's Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down," the president tweeted.

Lynch was actually standing during the first few bars of "The Star-Spangled Banner" on Sunday before taking a seat.

The Oakland Raiders running back wore a T-shirt that read "Everybody vs. Trump" prior to a game on Oct. 1.
