Colin Kaepernick will opt out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

The league was notified in a letter sent to all teams by Kaepernick's representation, Select Sports Group.

Kaepernick's contract was originally supposed to keep him with the Niners through 2020, but it was reworked in October before he reclaimed the starting job.

As part of the deal's reconfiguration, Kaepernick traded $14.5 million in injury guarantees for 2017 for the opportunity to opt out of the deal early.
