It was reported over the weekend that Matthew Stafford, who is signed through 2017, will seek $25 million annually in his next contract.

The figure would make him the NFL's highest-paid player. Andrew Luck signed an extension with a $24.6 million average annual value this past offseason.

On Wednesday, Stafford downplayed the report.

"That was news to me, to tell you the truth," Stafford said. "Hadn’t, obviously, had any thoughts of that in my mind, to tell you the truth. I don’t know where that came from or how it got out there, but I’m focused on our team, this season, playing well this week. That’s really all I care about."
