The New York Giants have had a disappointing season, but Archie Manning believes expectations were out of line with the actual talent on the roster.

“I don’t think anybody around the league is saying ‘The Giants are a real good team right now, they’re just not playing good,’” Manning said. “They probably aren’t a really good team right now.”

The Giants began the season with an 0-6 record.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with talking about playing a Super Bowl when it’s going to be in your town,” Manning said. “But were the Giants really a Super Bowl team to start the year when you really evaluate every position? Especially with having their two best linemen having offseason surgery?

“I actually give them a little credit. In other places that are having similar years they’ve kind of unraveled a little bit in those locker rooms. I’ve played on teams like that, where those locker rooms fall apart. To their credit, to their leadership, they haven’t done that. They’ve hung together.

“Just not a great team right now.”
