Joe Flacco emulated the leadership style of Joe Montana, who had a reserved approach when it came to interacting with his teammates. Flacco has drawn criticism for not being a more active leader.

“Look at Peyton [Manning],” Flacco said. “He has guys on eggshells all the time. If they do the wrong thing, they’re thinking, ‘S—, he’s going to kill me.’ And that works for him. But at the same time, I think it’s tough to play in that environment. Sure, if you’re not consistently putting in the effort, that’s when I’m going to call you out. But if you’re putting in a full effort and you do something that costs us the game, what the f— is yelling going to do? The game’s over. Let’s move on and get better.”
