Ten-time Pro Bowl guard Will Shields, the cornerstone of the Chiefs' offensive line and one of the most celebrated blockers in recent NFL history, is apparently set to return for his 13th season. After spending much of the offseason contemplating retirement, Shields told participants in his annual charity golf tournament Thursday that he will play at least one more season. Shields, who will turn 34 shortly after the regular-season opener, has not participated in any of the Chiefs' on-field activities in the offseason. Coach Dick Vermeil and general manager Carl Peterson had essentially excused Shields from the offseason program so that he could have time to determine his future. Vermeil had indicated in recent weeks, though, he was confident Shields would return.
