The Baltimore Ravens have made the playoffs in each of John Harbaugh’s four seasons as head coach, going a combined 42-20 during the span.  Ozzie Newsome continues to put blue chippers on the defensive side of the ball while piecing together a competitive offense in players such as Ray Rice, Joe Flacco and Torrey Smith.

RealGM has been using a statistic called the Trench Counter to rank NFL teams since the 2007 season.

The Trench Counter accounts for average yards per pass, yards per carry, penalty yards, first downs and turnovers to determine how well teams control the game in the most meaningful ways.

The Ravens rank 6th in Trench Counter from the 2007 season through 2011.

Below are Baltimore's season-by-season rankings, Trench Counter totals and actual record in parentheses.

2007: 25th, -4.2 (5-11)
2008: 1st, +7.3 (11-5)
2009: 9th, +4.2 (9-7)
2010: 6th, +4.9 (12-4)
2011: 8th, +4.5 (12-4)
