Bruce Allen: Team Presidents Should Be Judged By Wins And Losses

Mar 30, 2018 8:41 AM

Bruce Allen says he believes that everyone in football should be judged on wins and losses.

"Wins and losses is the most important statistic when it comes to an equipment manager, a team president, a quarterback, a running back, a guard or a coach," Allen said.

Allen believes the Washington Redskins upgraded at quarterback after acquiring Alex Smith and letting Kirk Cousins walk in free agency.

However, Allen's record as Washington's team president is 52-75-1 (.410).

Richard Sherman, Josh Norman Blast 'Lowering Helmet' Rule

Mar 29, 2018 12:36 PM

Richard Sherman and Josh Norman, never afraid to speak out, are blasting the new NFL rule that will penalize a defender 15 yards for lowering a helmet into an offensive player.

"It's ridiculous," Sherman told USA Today. "Like telling a driver if you touch the lane lines, you're getting a ticket. [It's] gonna lead to more lower-extremity injuries."

Roger Goodell promised Wednesday that the league will spend the offseason educating players on how the new rule will be enforced.

"I don't know how you're going to play the game," Norman said. "If your helmet comes in contact? How are you going to avoid that if you're in the trenches and hit a running back, facemask to facemask and accidentally graze the helmet? It's obviously going to happen. So, I don't know even what that definition looks like."

Agent: Kirk Cousins' Biggest Offer Didn't Come From Vikings

Mar 15, 2018 6:56 PM

Kirk Cousins is officially a member of the Minnesota Vikings after signing his fully guaranteed three-year, $84 million contract.

Cousins said that the reason he decided to play for the Vikings wasn't simply for the money.

The quarterback's agent, Mike McCartney, echoed those sentiments.

"Two things I kept saying to Kirk,” McCartney said. "Money is important, contract is important but I want you on a daily basis to jump out of bed excited to go to work, to go into a building that has a great culture and a chance to win. But at the same token at the end of the day, I want you to get excited to go home where your wife and family are flourishing and if we can find both of those I think we’ve done our job."

The agent also said that Minnesota's offer wasn't the largest one of the table for Cousins. McCartney didn't name who might have offered the quarterback more money overall.

DeAngelo Hall Didn't Feel Commitment From Kirk Cousins Last Season

Mar 7, 2018 12:05 PM

DeAngelo Hall is a fan of Kirk Cousins, but he doesn't think the quarterback was fully committed to the Washington Redskins last season.

"We kind of felt like the commitment wasn’t there from Kirk," Halltold ESPN. "We obviously wanted Kirk. We franchised him because we wanted him there. It was up to ownership and the front office to kind of work those numbers out. They couldn't get the numbers worked out, so he signed franchise tags those two football seasons. Everybody in that locker room was behind Kirk, wanted him there, but we wanted to feel like he wanted to be there as well. Having played 14 years, I understand, 'Let's go get the money,' but at some point there has to be mutual interest from both parties to want to get better collectively as a team. Paying Kirk probably the $30 million he's going to get, we couldn't do that and get better as a football team."

Hall later said that he didn't think the uncertainty of his future affected Cousins' play.

Broncos, Cardinals, Jets, Vikings Finalists For Kirk Cousins

Mar 3, 2018 10:07 AM

The Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings are expected to be the finalists to sign Kirk Cousins.

Last season, Cousins topped the 4,000-yard mark for the third straight season. He finished with 4,093 yards, 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions -- and a total QBR of 52.3, his lowest as the full-time starter.

Cousins played the last two seasons for Washington on a franchise tag. Rather than negotiate a final time with Cousins, however, Washington traded for Alex Smith on Jan. 30, agreeing to a four-year extension with the veteran.

The Broncos and Vikings would likely give Cousins the best odds of competing for a spot in the playoffs.
