Washington Places Exclusive Franchise Tag On Kirk Cousins

Feb 28, 2017 1:44 PM

Washington has placed the exclusive franchise tag on Kirk Cousins.

Cousins also played last season under the franchise tag.

Cousins reportedly would have preferred a deal to the San Francisco 49ers if he were to be traded this offseason.

Cousins will make $23.94 million under the tag if he and Washington are unable to agree upon a long-term deal.

Kirk Cousins Would Only Accept Trade To 49ers

Feb 28, 2017 11:28 AM

If Washington decides to trade Kirk Cousins, he would only accept a move to the San Francisco 49ers.

Wednesday is the deadline for the Redskins to decide whether to place their franchise tag on the quarterback.

Former Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is the new head coach of the 49ers.

Cousins can't outright block a trade to any team, but given the fact that he isn't signed long-term he could keep a club from acquiring by refusing to commit long-term.

Kirk Cousins Won't Sign New Deal Before Franchise Tag Applied

Feb 20, 2017 11:55 PM

Kirk Cousins will not sign a new deal with Washington before they apply the franchise tag upon him.

The deadline for turning the tag into a long-term contract continues to be July 15.

If he’s tagged, Cousins will rush to sign it, adding $23.94 million to the $19.95 million he earned last year. Cousins can then discuss a long-term deal with Washington with $23.94 million fully guaranteed for 2017.

Jordan Reed Lobbies To Keep Washington's Offense Together

Feb 15, 2017 8:28 PM

Kirk Cousins, DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon will all be free agents next month, but Jordan Reed wants to see Washington keep their offense together.

"I think first of all, we got to bring Kirk back," Reed told SiriusXM NFL. "We got to bring Kirk back. We got to bring two of our most valuable weapons back -- Pierre and D-Jax -- for us to have a shot. So, I think we need to bring those guys back and add a couple more pieces on defense, and I think we'll be right were we need to be."

Cousins is believed to be the most likely of the three to return.

Bruce Allen Won't Let Scot McCloughan Talk To Media

Feb 10, 2017 1:01 PM

The Washington Post is reporting that Washington president Bruce Allen won't allow general manager Scot McCloughan to talk to the media.

Most GMs talk to reporters at the Senior Bowl and the Scouting Combine, but Allen won't permit McCloughan to do so.

That report comes as part of a longer story that describes the team as “uneasy,” “nervous” and “desperate” after missing the playoff.
