Brian Orakpo Signs $11.45M Franchise Tender With Redskins

Oct 24, 2014 6:28 AM

Brian Orakpo has signed his $11.45 million franchise tender with the Washington Redskins.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this month that there was a fundamental disagreement between the team and player on Orakpo's value and the linebacker was in no rush to sign the tender.

By signing the tender, Orakpo and the Redskins will be able to negotiate without the threat of a holdout.

Activist Compares Snyder's Foundation To Bribery

Dec 17, 2014 4:17 PM

Owner Dan Snyder said Monday he's creating a foundation to assist American Indian tribes, even as some in that community continue to assert that the name "Redskins" is offensive.

"It's not enough to celebrate the values and heritage of Native Americans," Snyder said in a letter to the team's fans. "We must do more."

A major opponent of the nickname said Snyder's move was "somewhere between a PR assault and bribery." Suzan Shown Harjo, a lead figure in a long-running case that seeks to strip the Redskins of their federal trademark protection, told The Associated Press that Snyder is showing the "same arrogance" that he's shown previously when defending the nickname.

"I'm glad that he's had a realization that Native Americans have it tough in the United States," Harjo said. "All sorts of people could have told him that, and have been trying to tell him that for a long time."

Snyder again gave no indication he plans to change the team's name. He said he believes "even more firmly" the name "captures the best of who we are and who we can be, by staying true to our history and honoring the deep and enduring values our name represents."

Redskins' GM 'Feels Okay' About Offseason Moves

Oct 31, 2014 3:44 PM

The Washington Redskins have taken a conservative approach to the offseason, re-signing several key players with Jason Hatcher being their biggest new addition.

“I feel okay,” Bruce Allen said in an interview at The Washington Post on Thursday afternoon. “It’s easier if you said we had one or two deficiencies to target players, but we needed to address every position on the football team except for quarterback. And, so we talked to a lot of players at the beginning of free agency, tried to calculate who we could afford and who we couldn’t, knowing that we needed at least a dozen if not more.”

Griffin Won't Wear Knee Brace In 2014

Oct 13, 2014 5:34 AM

Robert Griffin III will not wear a knee brace during the 2014 season.

Griffin wasn't as explosive in 2013 coming back from tearing multiple ligaments in his right knee. It was widely believed Griffin would only need to wear it for one season.

"It's safe to say I won't be wearing the brace [in 2014]," Griffin said, according to CSN Washington.

Redskins To Use Franchise Tag On Brian Orakpo

May 18, 2014 7:03 AM

The Washington Redskins will use their franchise tag on Brian Orakpo if they are unable to sign him to a long-term deal by Monday's deadline.

Orakpo would be paid just less than $11.5 million for the 2014 season.

Orakpo had 10 sacks in 2013 after missing 14 games in 2012 with a torn pectoral muscle.

Orakpo turns 28 in July.

The Washington Redskins are struggling with the decision on whether or not to use the franchise tag on Brian Orakpo.
