Redskins Have No Plans To Trade Kirk Cousins

Oct 30, 2014 11:17 AM

The Washington Redskins have no plans on trading Kirk Cousins, according to sources.

Cousins had told the Redskins after the season that he would welcome a trade and recently reiterated his desire publicly.

"Nothing changes from the day I was drafted," said Cousins, a fourth-round pick in 2012 -- three rounds after Robert Griffin III. "There's no chance to compete, so if I can't get it in D.C., I'd be open to having that chance somewhere else."

The Redskins prefer to keep Cousins due to Griffin's injury history.

Cousins is under contract through the 2015 season so there's no urgency to deal him at this time.

Redskins Expecting To Keep Brian Orakpo

Oct 10, 2014 9:21 AM

The Washington Redskins hope to sign Brian Orakpo to a new deal before he hits the open market.

"I think 'Rak' can get much better. I know Ryan (Kerrigan) can get a lot better," Jim Haslett said. "We're going to try to turn them loose more this year, do a little bit more with them games-wise. Don't worry so much if they lose contain, because they're going to lose frickin' contain half the time. Let's go roll and make sure the tackles cover for them."

Orakpo is ranked third in free agency by NFL.com.

Haslett: Yardage Rankings 'For Losers'

Oct 30, 2014 11:18 AM

The Washington Redskins struggled in yardage allowed last season, but that statistic can often be misleading.

"The year before, we were third in the league in turnovers," Jim Haslett said. "And the offense was number one in the league; they only turned it over 14 times. So if that ratio comes up, you're gonna win a lot of games. Yardage? People look at that. That's kind of for losers."

Said Haslett: "Teams that are winning and got big leads, you give up yards at the end of the game. Offenses that aren't very good, they get yardage at the end of the game, so they can rank high. That's not the object. The object is to get the ball back for the offense, let them score points."
