Skins' Landry Remains Unsigned

May 18, 2014 6:53 AM

Safety LaRon Landry, Washington's top draft choice, remained unsigned as the Redskins opened training camp yesterday. Landry, the sixth pick overall, became Washington's first holdout since quarterback Patrick Ramsey's 16-day absence in 2002. "Everybody's working hard and I think it's getting close," coach Joe Gibbs said. "I would be disappointed if it went more than a couple of days. The agents are real leery [of completing a deal] unless everyone is signed ahead of them."

Risdon's Preview: Washington Redskins

Oct 17, 2014 11:08 AM

Jeff Risdon has filed his season preview of the Washington Redskins as they look to improve from their 5-11 season last year. The starters have enough talent to make a quick turnaround. Last year the Skins set an NFL record for their inability to force turnovers, and the defense was 30th in QB pressures. The two quickest ways to turn losses into wins are to improve those two areas, and Washington has enough ability to dramatically improve in both areas. But the lack of depth, the inexperience at QB, and shaky coaching chemistry (the result of too many chefs and not enough waiters) provide a real thin margin for error. If it all clicks quickly the Skins could make a run at 9 wins, a Wild Card, and be a tough playoff out. But a disappointing 7-9 finish and lots of coaching changes next summer is far more likely. Redskins Sign Three More Picks

Oct 17, 2014 11:08 AM

The Washington Redskins have completed negotiations with all draft picks save for first-round selection LaRon Landry after signing linebacker H.B. Blades yesterday and agreeing to terms with linebacker Dallas Sartz and quarterback Jordan Palmer. Sartz was taken in the fifth round, while Blades and Palmer were drafted in the sixth round. Seventh-round pick Tyler Ecker, a tight end, signed several weeks ago. The Redskins also announced that they have released former Maryland quarterback Sam Hollenbach, a rookie free agent who was signed after the draft. The Redskins had only one first-day draft pick -- Landry, a safety from LSU -- and he will receive the bulk of the team's rookie cap money. Players selected in the fifth round and later receive nominal signing bonuses and NFL base salaries are not guaranteed. Negotiations with Landry had not begun as of the weekend but will intensify by next week with players scheduled to report for training camp July 27.
