Report: Police Detain Three For Questioning In Taylor Shooting

Jun 18, 2014 4:46 PM

Police have detained at least three people in the Fort Myers area for questioning in the death of Redskins' star Sean Taylor, a newspaper reported Friday. The Miami Herald said on its Web site that investigators believe the suspects learned of Taylor's house through someone who unwittingly set up the burglary by bragging about his wealth. The suspects include a teenager and two men in their 20s from the Fort Myers area, the paper reported.

Rolle: Taylor Was Scared When He Was In Miami

Nov 27, 2014 8:01 PM

Still in disbelief of his childhood friend's shooting death, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antrel Rolle vowed Wednesday to make sure Sean Taylor is remembered. He added he did not believe the killing was part of a burglary gone sour, and that Taylor had many enemies on the streets of Miami. "He really didn't say too much," Rolle said, "but I know he was pretty much scared every time he was down in Miami."

Police: Taylor Shooting Looked Random

Sep 18, 2014 12:29 AM

Washington Redskins' safety Sean Taylor was shot to death in what police suspect was a random burglary, and there are no indications the player was targeted or knew his assailant. "There's nothing that indicates thus far that there's some kind of involvement on the victim's part," said Robert Parker, director of the Miami-Dade County Police Department, adding it was "more like a random event." He said evidence at Taylor's home indicates one or more intruders barged into the house early Monday in an attempted burglary. After a confrontation inside the home, Taylor was shot once in the upper leg and died early Tuesday after losing a tremendous amount of blood. Police have no suspects and have asked the public to come forward with any information. "We have no reason to think this was anything other than a burglary or a robbery involving an intruder," Parker said.

No Suspects In Taylor Homicide

Jul 13, 2014 6:40 PM

Police remained without a suspect Wednesday in the shooting death of Sean Taylor, looking for clues in hopes of determining who barged into the home of the Washington Redskins' star safety. No description of a suspect has been released, and police haven't made available results of Taylor's autopsy or the 911 call his girlfriend placed to report the shooting early Monday. He died a day later at age 24. Authorities took numerous pieces of evidence, including a computer, from Taylor's home. Police are studying a possible connection between the shooting and a burglary at the home eight days earlier.

Redskins' Taylor Dead At 24

Dec 17, 2014 7:12 AM

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early Tuesday, a day after he was shot at home. He was 24. Family friend Richard Sharpstein said Taylor's father told him the news around 5:30 a.m. "His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans." He said Taylor died early Tuesday at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he had been airlifted after the shooting early Monday. Doctors had been encouraged late Monday when Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand, according to Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' vice president of football operations. But Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being transported to the hospital and that he wasn't sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand.

Skins' Springs: Football Is My Sanctuary

Oct 20, 2014 8:10 PM

Redskins' cornerback Shawn Springs has described his profession this way: "Football is my sanctuary." Then, he goes on to say, "Football is where I can get away from the things that are going on in my life. In between the lines, all I think about is football, and it's kind of fun. You can disappear for a little bit." As has been well documented in the national sports' press, the picture is not a bright one regarding Springs' father Ron Springs. For a long time, he has been suffering from diabetes-related complications. And now Ron Springs lies in a Dallas hospital with a coma, from which, doctors have told the Springs' family, there are serious doubts that he will emerge.

Oct 10, 2014 9:39 PM

Washington Redskins' receiver Santana Moss returned to practice Friday and sounded optimistic that he will play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. "From doing what I did in practice, I should be able to play," Moss said. Moss missed last week's game because of a bruised heel and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, compounding an already dire situation at receiver. James Thrash is out for the Cowboys' game after severely spraining his ankle last week, and Brandon Lloyd is done for the year after breaking his collarbone during practice on Wednesday.
