Skins' CB Rogers Out For Season

Jul 6, 2014 7:30 AM

Washington Redskins' cornerback Carlos Rogers is out of the year with torn ligaments in his right knee. Rogers was hurt in the first quarter of Sunday's 52-7 loss to the New England Patriots. An MRI on Monday revealed tears in the ACL and MCL. He will have surgery in about two weeks and begin rehabilitation with the possible goal of returning for next year's training camp. "We've got bad news on Carlos," coach Joe Gibbs said. "He's a real tough guy. There's going to have to be some other guys to step up."

Gibbs: Redskins Are 'Biggest Underdog In The History Of Sports'

Oct 16, 2014 12:01 AM

Clinton Portis is having the worst stretch of his career. Santana Moss has a total of 8 yards receiving in his last two games. Jason Campbell put up the kind of numbers Sunday that had fans screaming for Mark Brunell's benching three years ago. The Redskins had barely enough offense to beat the Cardinals. That kind of output won't do next week against the juggernaut otherwise known as the Patriots. "We'll probably be the biggest underdog in the history of sports," coach Joe Gibbs said Monday.

Redskins Survive Last Second FG, Beat Cardinals

Sep 19, 2014 10:26 AM

The Washington Redskins and Arizona Cardinals seemed poised to set football back for decades Sunday with bad penalties and bonehead mistakes. Because the Redskins had the only thing resembling a normal scoring drive, it seemed appropriate they were the winners, 21-19. But they finished the day with only 160 total yards and survived a 55-yard field goal attempt that was barely wide left with 2 seconds remaining. Arizona's Neil Rackers missed what would have matched the longest field goal of his career. The attempt was set up when the Cardinals recovered an onside kick following a touchdown and a failed 2-point conversion.

Redskins' Lefotu Faces 3 Charges After Arrest

Oct 2, 2014 7:11 AM

Kili Lefotu, an offensive lineman on the Washington Redskins' practice squad, was arrested Friday night and charged with being public drunkeness, destruction of property and simple assault, said Kraig Troxell, a spokesman for the Loudoun County sheriff's office. According to Troxell, police responded to a call about a public disturbance at around 10:30 p.m. Friday at Nick's Corner Grill in Ashburn. Witnesses told police that Lefotu had caused damage inside the restaurant, Troxell said. According to witnesses, Troxell said, Lefotu allegedly ripped glass off a wall above a mantle and chased several patrons. Lefotu, who is listed at 6 feet 5 and 315 pounds, also shoved one male patron who is pursuing charges.

Redskins' Win Marks 21 Straight Against Lions At Home

Sep 14, 2014 9:04 AM

The Washington Redskins had no choice but to be creative. Their No. 1 receiver didn't play, and the No. 2 wideout was gone by halftime. Jason Campbell had to throw to people who hadn't caught anything all season, and fullback Mike Sellers had his most productive game ever. The Redskins held the ball and wore down the Detroit Lions on a hot day, keeping the No. 1 passing offense off the field in a 34-3 rout. A better than 2-to-1 advantage in total yards Sunday kept alive a 70-year hex for the Lions in the nation's capital.

Redskins' Moss Encouraged After Testing Groin

Sep 29, 2014 5:59 AM

There was a bounce in Santana Moss' step yesterday. "I feel great," the Washington Redskins' No. 1 receiver said yesterday after he missed practice again but ran routes for the first time since he strained a groin on Sept. 23 against the New York Giants. "I ran pretty good. That's all I wanted. I did what I had to do today. I ran some routes [without coverage] That's a different kind of route [than if] someone's pulling on you. But the speed I ran it at and putting your foot in the ground and planting, everything was great." Coach Joe Gibbs was not nearly as buoyant, terming Moss doubtful and reiterating twice that he hadn't practiced. "It might be a situation where he warms up before the game [and plays] and it might not," Gibbs said.

Portis Better, Moss Hurting As Redskins Prepare For Lions

Jun 21, 2014 12:52 PM

Washington running back Clinton Portis practiced on his sore knee and is ready to go. Receiver Santana Moss did a lot of sprints and little else. The health of two important parts of the Redskins offense took different paths Thursday as the team prepared for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. Portis has a bruised and slightly sprained right knee, the same knee that was beset by tendinitis for nearly all of training camp. Portis said he was surprised that his latest setback has caused so much drama. Moss, meanwhile, is dealing with a groin injury that could loom larger for the Redskins than Portis' ailment. If Portis can't play, at least the team can turn to Ladell Betts, who rushed for more than 1,100 yards last year. If Moss doesn't go, the possible options include James Thrash, Reche Caldwell, Keenan McCardell and Brandon Lloyd -- none of whom has a catch this year.

Portis Expected To Play With Injury

Oct 21, 2014 7:24 PM

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis bruised or sprained his right knee against the New York Giants on Sept. 23, and did not have a flare up of the tendinitis that sidelined him for the preseason. "In the first quarter of the game, he fell on his knee and bruised the inside of his knee, and that's what we're treating," director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer said. "He's got a contusion-slash-sprain that if you have to classify it would be a Grade I. We're taking it day to day, and our hope is that he'll be ready to play on Sunday."
