Owners Trim Commissioner Candidate List To 11

Oct 19, 2014 11:36 AM

The NFL owners have reportedly trimmed the list of candidates to replace Paul Tagliabue down to 11. They will reduce the field even more in the next week or so. The finalists are to be presented to the entire ownership group during a three-day meeting in Chicago scheduled to begin on Aug. 7. The election of a new commissioner requires at least 22 votes among the 32 teams. Two sources said that three executives from the NFL office, including Chief Operating Officer Roger Goodell, are among the 11 remaining candidates. The other two candidates from the NFL office are league counsel Jeff Pash and Eric Grubman, an executive vice president for finance and business transactions. Goodell is the early favorite.

Redskins Sean Taylor Faces Lawsuit

Oct 19, 2014 11:37 AM

Redskins safety Sean Taylor was sued by a man who said the NFL player brandished a gun and repeatedly hit him during a fight last June. Ryan Hill filed the suit on June 27 in Miami Dade Circuit Court and is seeking $15,000 in damages from Taylor. The lawsuit states that Hill was bruised, incurred medical expenses and lost wages because of the fight. Taylor, 23, reached a deal with prosecutors last month after they agreed to drop felony charges against him stemming from the fight. He pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in the assault case and was sentenced to 18 months probation.
