While Attorneys Prepare For Trial, Taylor Visits 'Skins Workout

Oct 22, 2014 5:09 AM

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor reported to Redskins Park for an offseason workout yesterday, a day after one of his lawyers said he would not attend because he needed to prepare for his trial next month in Miami. Taylor was unavailable for comment. His attorney, Richard Sharpstein, said, "Sean felt he needed to be with his team." "We decided we didn't need him to be here," Sharpstein said in a telephone interview from Miami. "Sean was comfortable with where we were with the case, and we'll handle it down here and he can work with us on the weekends." Taylor, 22, goes on trial April 10. He is facing felony assault charges and a misdemeanor count of battery after being arrested last June for allegedly pulling a firearm on three people he believes stole two all-terrain vehicles from him.

Ramsey Deal To Jets Close?

Oct 23, 2014 3:08 AM

Patrick Ramsey, Washington's former starting quarterback and the team's passing leader in three of the last four seasons, is on the verge of being traded. Ramsey's likely trade to the New York Jets for perhaps a sixth-round choice in next month's NFL draft and a future selection would be the next domino to fall in a series of quarterback moves around the league yesterday. It began when Minnesota traded Daunte Culpepper to Miami, followed by former San Diego starter Drew Brees signing with New Orleans and continued with ex-Cincinnati and Seattle starter Jon Kitna going to Detroit.

Redskins Continue To Add, Pick Up Archuleta

Oct 31, 2014 4:39 AM

Safety Adam Archuleta kept getting calls from his former Rams defensive coordinator, Lovie Smith, who was trying to recruit him to come to the Chicago Bears and help out his defense. But the Redskins flashed $10 million in guarantees and a contract worth close to $5 million a year, and those thoughts ended. Archuleta became the Redskins' fourth addition from over the weekend, joining receivers Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El and tight end Christian Fauria. Archuleta flew to Washington on Saturday on Daniel Snyder's private plane and stayed for the weekend until the Redskins finished the deal.

The terms agreed upon are worth a maximum of $31 million over seven years with up to $11.5 million guaranteed in roster and signing bonuses, the source said.

Niners Trade Lloyd To Washington

Oct 15, 2014 12:57 PM

The San Francisco 49ers traded leading receiver Brandon Lloyd to Washington on Saturday for the Redskins' third-round pick this year and their fourth-round selection in 2007. Lloyd was a restricted free agent for the 49ers, who drafted him in the third round three years ago. He was San Francisco's top receiver last season, catching 48 passes for 733 yards and five touchdowns for the NFL's worst offense, but alienated teammates and clashed with Mike Nolan's new coaching staff.

Redskins Interested In Brandon Lloyd

Oct 21, 2014 11:44 AM

A published report yesterday said the Redskins were interested in San Francisco receiver Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd, 24, had 48 catches and five touchdowns last season for the 49ers, but signing him will cost any team. The 49ers have tendered Lloyd, a restricted free agent, for $1.6 million, giving them the right to match any contract offer or receive a first-round draft choice as compensation. The Redskins don't have a first round pick this year. Lloyd's agent, Joby Branion, did not return a phone message yesterday.

The Jets are acting quickly on Patrick Ramsey - so quickly that the former No. 1 draft pick out of Tulane could join Chad Pennington and Co. within days. Two sources familiar with the goings on between the Jets and Redskins, told The Post last night that the Jets and Jimmy Sexton, the agent for the Washington backup quarterback, have been actively working on the parameters for a trade that would bring Ramsey to New York.

Arrington, Redskins Part Ways

Nov 30, 2014 10:49 PM

LaVar Arrington will become a free agent after agreeing Sunday night to forfeit over $4 million in deferred money the Washington Redskins owed him to get out of his contract with the team, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. As part of the deal, the Redskins have placed Arrington on waivers. A team source said that the move would have been made irrespective of any delay in the waiver deadline Sunday evening. Arrington was due $5.668 million in deferred cash for the remainder of his contract, but he agreed to forfeit $4.4 million of that in order to become a free agent. The Redskins will still pay Arrington the balance of $1.268 million on April 1. "It's going to be best for the Redskins. I hope it's going to be best for LaVar," coach Joe Gibbs said Monday. "I think it gives him a chance for a fresh start. ... I certainly wish the last two years had been smoother here."
