Redskins Considering Randle El

Aug 6, 2014 4:41 PM

If the Washington Redskins are able to rework enough contracts and cut enough players to get under the projected salary cap of $95 million by Thursday and then free up some more cash to sign a new player, Pittsburgh receiver Antwaan Randle El could be on their radar. Randle El had 35 catches for 558 yards and a touchdown and returned 44 punts for a 10.2-yard average and two touchdowns last season. He threw a touchdown in the Super Bowl. The Redskins clearly need help at receiver, and their punt return game (28th in the NFL) was a season-long exhibition in short gains or fair catches. Randle El is expected to be pursued by Chicago and Philadelphia. Pittsburgh would like to keep Randle El but not at the kind of price he will command on the open market.

All of a sudden, the hottest, most sought-after franchise player in the sports world may be a guy who describes himself as "fat, bald and old." Tony Kornheiser, the Washington Post columnist and ESPN yakker, has become the object of a bidding war among media companies, with deals worth millions of dollars -- and the lineups of newspapers, TV and radio stations -- hanging in the balance. The list of Kornheiser's suitors includes ESPN, XM and Sirius radio, Bonneville International Corp., The Washington Post and Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, who wants Kornheiser as a host for his newly purchased string of radio stations.

Redskins Deny Interest In Owens

Oct 20, 2014 2:45 AM

Washington Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato denied Internet and broadcast reports Wednesday linking the team to Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens. "Our head coach [Joe Gibbs] said it before," Cerrato said. "We think he's an outstanding player, but he just doesn't fit us." Earlier in the day, SI.com, the Web site of Sports Illustrated, published a column by Peter King titled "Five Things I Think I Think" in which he predicted that the Redskins would "be a major player in the Terrell Owens sweepstakes before it's all done."
