Redskins Top Pick CB Rogers Has Stress Fracture In Foot

Aug 1, 2014 2:13 AM

The Washington Redskins first pick in the draft, cornerback Carlos Rogers, has a stress fracture in his right foot. The injury is more serious than previously thought and could cause him to miss the start of the July 31 training camp. Rogers had been playing through the pain when the extent of the injury was not yet known. At the time, Gregg Williams , assistant head coach-defense, praised Rogers for his toughness: "He showed the vets a lot the last two days by practicing under physical duress. Today we made him not practice."

Redskins Taylor Faces 3-Year Sentence On Assault Charge

Jun 4, 2014 1:17 PM

If Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor is convicted on charges resulting from an incident where he allegedly pointed a gun during a dispute about an all-terrain vehicle, he could face a minimum 3-year sentence. Charges were filed against Taylor on Friday. Charges will include a single count of aggravated assault with a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of simple battery. Taylor?s attorney, Edward Carhart, said his client hoped to avoid charges after meeting with prosecutors voluntarily and presenting polygraph test results the lawyer said clear Taylor of wrongdoing. Polygraph results usually are not admissible in court.

Gardner Not Present For Redskins Mandatory Minicamp

Jun 4, 2014 1:37 PM

The Washington Redskins and wide receiver Rod Gardner have mutually agreed that the veteran not attend the team?s mandatory mini-camp that took place last weekend. This is a sign that the Redskins and Gardner will indeed part ways. Early in the offseason, Washington afforded Gardner and agent Joel Segal permission to seek potential trade scenarios with other NFL teams. Despite discussions with several franchises ? Minnesota, Seattle and Cleveland, among them ? a deal never developed. That is in part, likely, because teams knew that Gardner would eventually be released and they could then sign him as an unrestricted free agent.

Redskins Sign Safety Dixon

Feb 7, 2014 1:21 AM

The Washington Redskins signed safety Tony Dixon for a one-year deal reported to be worth $540,000. With current safety Sean Taylor currently involved in legal entanglements, Dixon?s signing is most likely an insurance policy in case Taylor is not available next season. A four-year veteran, Dixon had played his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys, who chose him in the second round of the 2001 draft. As an unrestricted free agent this spring, Dixon drew late interest from several teams, and worked out for the 49ers last week.

Police Confirm That Taylor Did Not Fire Gun, May Have Been The Victim

Oct 4, 2014 5:30 AM

Contrary to earlier charges, Miami police are now saying that Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor did not fire any shots in Wednesday night's shooting in Dade County. In fact, according to sources, Taylor may now have been the victim rather than the attacker. While the police iron out the details, Redskins coach Joe Gibbs has excused Taylor from the teams pre-season workouts. "As of today, Sean is excused from the participating in the remainder of the club's voluntary offseason workout program and the upcoming mandatory minicamp beginning on June 17," Gibbs said in a statement. "As an organization, the Redskins believe that it is in Sean's best interest to focus on his personal and legal issues at this time."

Washington Signs WR Kevin Dyson

Oct 4, 2014 5:29 AM

The Redskins signed free agent wide receiver Kevin Dyson, a six-year veteran who has been plagued by injuries over the last three years. Dyson, 29, signed a one-year contract believed to include a minimum base salary. He is the third veteran wide receiver to join the Redskins in the offseason, joining Santana Moss, who was acquired in a trade, and free agent David Patten. The team has been attempting to trade Gardner, a former first-rounder, and likely will release him within the next week or so. Several teams are interested in Gardner but prefer to sign him after he is cut free by Washington, rather than trade for him.

Portis Agrees To Pay $18k To Resolve Uniform Dispute

Nov 23, 2014 12:38 AM

Redskins tailback Clinton Portis on Monday agreed to pay former Washington safety Ifeanyi Ohalete $18,000 of the $20,000 that the latter claimed he was owed for giving uniform No. 26 to Portis a year ago. The settlement brought the tab in the case, not including attorneys fees, to $38,000. According to the agreement between the players, Portis had agreed to pay Ohalete $40,000 for the uniform number, and had already shelled out $20,000. The remaining $20,000 was in question until Monday, with the players scheduled for a Tuesday session in a Maryland courtroom. "It took just a matter of hours and most of that time was spent trying to reach our clients," Steren said. "I think both players are glad to put this behind them. They can get on with their business now. I think they've got bigger things to move on to."
