Brunell Sits For Most Of Practice, Still Expected To Play

Jul 14, 2014 6:55 AM

Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell sat out for much of practice Friday with a strained left calf muscle, but remains listed as probable for this weekend's game against the San Francisco 49ers. "We kept Mark out as a precautionary measure," coach Joe Gibbs said. "He looked good this morning. We don't anticipate any problems." Brunell felt the strain while dropping back to pass near the end of Thursday's practice. He said the injury might have concerned him had it happened on Saturday, but he said he expects to be fine in time to face the 49ers.

Arrington Expected To Play Major Time Against Niners

Jul 14, 2014 6:55 AM

It appears that, for the first time in a month, the Redskins will give LaVar Arrington significant playing time at linebacker when the team takes on San Francisco on Sunday, The Washington Post reported. The three-time Pro-Bowler has not seen any action on defense during the past two games -- both Redskin losses. On Thursday, however, Gregg Williams, the assistant head coach-defense, hinted that the team might use Arrington against the 49ers and their rookie quarterback, Alex Smith. "He's had a really good week of practice," Williams told the paper. "I feel real good about his playing and real good about where he's at. The last two weeks, he's taken some strides physically. It looks like his legs are back. He's bouncing around pretty good out there."

Arrington' Doesn't Leave The Bench

Oct 29, 2014 8:58 PM

The steady decline of linebacker LaVar Arrington's playing time -- and perhaps his career in Washington -- continued Sunday as the three-time Pro Bowl pick failed to get on the field for the Redskins' 21-19 loss at Invesco Field at Mile High. Arrington played fairly regularly in Week 1, then got five plays against Dallas, two plays against Seattle and none against the Denver Broncos. Even with Washington trailing by 11 points late and coaches funneling in depth players such as defensive lineman Ryan Boschetti, Arrington was an afterthought. Most of the game he stood alone at one end or the other of the sideline and was quick to congratulate teammates as they came off the field. He sat draped in a coat on the bench for much of the second half, benched entirely for the first time. "I didn't play," Arrington said. "There ain't nothing to talk about."

Champ Bailey Questionable

Jun 26, 2014 12:57 AM

Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey may not be on the field to d-up Redskins wide receiver Clinton Portis this Sunday as he rests his sore let hamstring. "I feel closer to playing, closer to being able to play," Bailey said. "Last week, I couldn't."
